First of all, when you considered to place your oil painting, make sure you find the proper location in the house. Try to avoid hanging your oil painting near to fire, radiator, direct sunlight, heating or even air conditioning vents. All the mentioned above stuffs are restriction for oil painting. You are advised to hang your oil painting in the room temperature 18 to 21 degree Celsius and humidity from 45 to 55 % during winter time. However, during summer day the temperature can be slightly higher from 21 to 24 degree Celsius and the humidity can be slightly lower from 45 to 55%.
Some of the people might think to install the lighting for the oil painting. The light could generate the heat and this could spoil the oil painting as well. Therefore, the correct distance between light and oil painting are important. Besides, you must make sure the light you buy is suitable for the lighting on the oil painting. If improper lighting, it will discolor the oil painting from time to time.
If you keeping your oil painting in store room make sure you are stored in the appropriate places with the correct methods. Cover the oil painting with a non plastic dust sheet so that you can prevent dust settling and mold. Bear in mind; do not store your oil painting in garage, basement or places that can expose high moisture area.
In addition, cleaning is an essential maintenance for your oil painting to hold the quality of the painting. You are advised to let the skilled professional to clean it for you. However, a simple cleaning dust, you can do it yourself within 4 to 6 months by just using dry bristle brush and gently brush away the dust. Before doing this, make sure the painting doesn’t show any indication of cracking and flaking sign. By brushing this, it could cause the paint to flake off.
While you are moving your oil painting from one point to another point, make sure your hands are clean and dry. You are advice to wear the clean glove (non plastic type). Put down all your jewelry, watches, belts, pen, and etc which are possible to harm your valuable oil painting. When you lift up your oil painting, please hold two side of the oil painting with your both hands.
